BIOGRAPHY

Dr. PavanKumar R Gangireddy has received B.Sc degree in the year 1998 and M.Sc degree in the year 2000 from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He gained 4 years of industrial experience in the process development of drug synthesis. Then, he completed doctoral research in organic synthesis under the supervision of Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar from CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad and obtained a Ph.D. degree in the year 2010 from the University of Pune, Pune, India. Later, he continued research as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Rene Gree at University of Rennes 1, Rennes, France from February 2011 to February 2013. Thereafter, he joined Prof. Lanny S. Liebeskind in March 2013 and continued research as a senior postdoctoral research associate at Emory University, Atlanta, USA, till April 2017. In May 2017, he joined as an assistant professor at NIPER-Hyderabad. He gained experience in the total synthesis of complex natural products, design and synthesis of unnatural amino acid peptides, development of sustainable catalytic protocols for organic synthesis, and mechanistic investigations of the reactions. He explicitly trained for medicinal chemistry; design and synthesis of chemical libraries for the execution of lead optimization in drug discovery.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

In the 21st century, the pursuit of chemical synthesis of complex natural products and their analogs, materials, and small molecule therapeutics is ambitious towards an ideal synthesis. Although the effective implementation of this ideal synthesis is extremely challenging, nature’s biosynthesis of complex structures always inspires to implement the redox economy and other ideas into practice. The redox economy refers to the reduction of non-strategic steps, and increases the adoption of step and atom economic reactions to synthesize the complex molecule, which gained immense attention recently. However, this redox economy is still far-off from being an ideal synthesis. Therefore, we are particularly interested in the development of sustainable catalytic protocols for widely applicable reactions. In addition, we are interested in rendering newer synthetic technologies in the complex natural product synthesis and drug discovery.
