BIOGRAPHY

Received PhD in Organic Chemistry from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Prasanthinilayam, A.P. India in the year 1991 and continued as a faculty for three years. Moved on to the R & D centre of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in the year 1995 and spent close to 13 years in various positions of increasing responsibilities. Led and managed various drug discovery programmes of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in the areas of oncology and metabolic disorders as Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry. Subsequently, joined Biocon BMS Research Centre, Bangalore, as Chief Scientific Manager. Later on moved to Aurigene Discovery Technologies Ltd., (a subsidiary of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories) as Research Director, Medicinal Chemistry in 2008. Led a number of integrated drug discovery programmes in the area of Oncology in collaboration with various pharmaceutical companies. My recent industrial assignment has been with Albany Molecular Research (AMRI), Hyderabad Research Centre as Director, Medicinal Chemistry

RESEARCH SUMMARY

For the past several years, my major research area has been on carrying out integrated drug discovery programs in the areas of Oncology and Metabolic disorders. I have been focusing on a) designing and synthesizing novel kinase inhibitors useful in treating proliferative diseases. MAP Kinase pathway, Jun Kinase, Aurora, and Alk are some of the kinases explored. b) Exploration and identification of structurally diverse, biologically active Natural Products. Generation of novel natural product based semi-synthetic analogues as anti-cancer agents. Andrographolide from Androhraphis paniculata has been identified as a potent anti-cancer agent and a number of novel and potent semi-synthetic analogues have been generated. c) Generation of novel and structurally diverse combinatorial libraries with drug like properties. Currently, we would like to focus on developing alternative and sustainable scale up technologies in pharmaceutical sciences.
