Dr. Mohammed Arifuddin is born in Hyderabad, India on May 29, 1971. After completion of his schooling education he received his B.Sc. with biology, physics and chemistry as main subject from Osmania University, in 1992. He received his M.Sc. degree in chemistry (specialization organic chemistry) in 1995 from Osmania University. Dr. Arif joined the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, India as a project assistant under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Kamal, on DST-Ranbaxy co laboratory project “Synthesis of Anticancer agents”. He received senior research Fellowship award (1998) from CSIR, New Delhi.

He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in January 2003, on the "Development of Methodologies for the Opening of Oxiranes; Regeneration of Carbonyl Compounds and Synthesis of New Podophyllotoxin Congeners as Anticancer Agents".

Dr. Arif is extensively working into multi-disciplinary research problems in medicinal chemistry ranging from the synthesis of new chemical entities (NCE’s) as potential therapeutic agents (anticancer, antimicrobial etc) and developments of new synthetic methodologies for organic functional group transformation under eco-friendly conditions which are useful in the organic synthesis. He extensively worked on the synthesis of biological active compounds by using conventional as well modern synthetic organic methods.
